North Dakota Stockmen鈥檚 Foundation Welcomes New Leaders, Assumes New Officers

Two state cattle industry leaders have been named to the North Dakota Stockmen鈥檚 Foundation (NDSF) Board of Directors.聽Shane Anderson聽of聽Towner,聽N.D., and聽Lowell聽Malard聽of Bismarck, N.D., were recently appointed as directors of the 501(c)3 charitable organization.聽The NDSF works to provide hope and opportunity for the state鈥檚 cattle industry in this and future generations through scholarship, leadership, promotion, research, building and disaster relief objectives.

鈥淲e are excited to welcome聽Shane and Lowell聽to the聽board,鈥漵aid聽Jason聽Leiseth, the new NDSF president and聽an Arnegard, N.D., cow-calf producer. 鈥淭heir vast industry and community service experience and vision will be perfect complements to our board and will help the Stockmen鈥檚 Foundation accomplish its mission.鈥

Anderson and his wife Joni have one daughter,聽AnneMarie, and run an Angus and Lim-Flex cow-calf operation and raise replacement females, corn, oats and alfalfa. Anderson is聽committed to industry service, having served on the North Dakota Stockmen鈥檚 Association (NDSA) Board of Directors for two terms, where he聽was the Brand Board and Brand and Theft Committee chairman and represented the organization at the Young Cattlemen鈥檚 Legislative Conference and the national-level Young Cattlemen鈥檚 Conference.

Malard聽and his wife Shannon have two children, Brita and Clay, and run a commercial Angus cow-calf operation.聽Malard聽has聽also聽been a dedicated beef industry volunteer, having served two terms on the NDSA Board of Directors聽and as the聽organization鈥檚 Ag Policy Committee chairman. He also serves on the聽North Dakota聽Ag Coalition鈥檚 Executive Committee.

The duo fills the vacancies of聽Tim聽Erbele聽of Streeter, N.D., who assumed a new position on the NDSF Board of Directors as the newly elected NDSA vice president, and Teresa Dvorak of Manning, N.D., who had聽served聽as a director聽since 2021.

Leiseth聽assumed the NDSF presidency following the retirement of Jeff Schafer, a New Rockford, N.D., cattleman who completed his聽officer聽term and was no longer eligible. Randy Schmitt, a聽Rugby, N.D., cattleman,聽also moved聽into the NDSF vice president role, which had been held by Leiseth.

Since the Foundation聽was established in 2008, it has accomplished the following:

鈥 Provided 115 scholarships to cream-of-the-crop students;

鈥 Helped聽bring relief to producers who were devastated by聽relentless floods, blizzards, wildfire and drought;

鈥⒙燩artnered聽with the聽NDSA聽to provide聽North Dakota beef to the Great Plains Food Bank to feed hungry families;

鈥⒙燩rovided mental health resources to ranch families聽navigating challenging times;

鈥⒙燛stablished聽a beef research fund to keep producers聽on the cutting edge of science and technology;

鈥⒙燞elped聽develop curriculum to assist families with聽the generational transfer of their farms and ranches; and

鈥⒙燛rected聽a new state cattle industry headquarters.

The NDSF Board of Directors is comprised of Shane Anderson, Towner, N.D.;聽Terrald聽Bang, Killdeer, N.D.; Tim聽Erbele, Streeter, N.D.; Gene Heinrich, Medina, N.D.; Scott Katus, Watauga, S.D.; Jason聽Leiseth, Arnegard, N.D.;聽Lowell聽Malard, Bismarck,聽N.D.;聽Randy Schmitt, Rugby, N.D.; and聽Wendy Stuber, Bowman, N.D.
